At 84tattoochiangmai, your safety and comfort come first. Whether you’re planning a single earlobe, multiple surface piercings, or a full-body session, these guidelines explain how we maintain strict hygiene and how you can prepare and care for your piercings to minimize risks and promote healthy healing.
Studio Standards and What We Do
Single-use, sterile needles for every piercing — never reused.
Autoclave sterilization for all non-disposable metal tools; biological indicators and regular spore tests to verify effectiveness.
Medical-grade, food-safe disinfectants for surfaces; fresh barrier covers on chairs and workstations for each client.
Trained, experienced piercers who follow aseptic technique: handwashing, glove changes, and minimal contact with the jewelry and pierced area.
High-quality implant-grade jewelry (titanium, surgical steel, niobium, or implant-grade gold) and correctly sized options to reduce migration and rejection.
Clean, private procedure rooms and a clear client intake process to screen for contraindications (medications, medical conditions, pregnancy, etc.).
Clear aftercare instructions and follow-up availability for questions and concerns.
How to Prepare Before Your Appointment
Eat and hydrate well before your session to help manage pain and reduce fainting risk.
Avoid alcohol and recreational drugs for at least 24–48 hours beforehand, and avoid aspirin or blood-thinning supplements unless advised by your physician.
Bring a list of current medications and any relevant medical history (diabetes, immune disorders, heart conditions, allergies).
Wear comfortable, loose clothing that gives easy access to the area being pierced and won’t rub on fresh jewelry.
If you’re getting multiple piercings or a long session, plan breaks and bring a support person if that helps you feel comfortable.
The Piercing Procedure: What to Expect
Consultation and consent: we discuss anatomy, placement, jewelry options, and healing expectations; you sign a consent form.
Marking and review: precise marking of the site so you can approve placement before anything happens.
Cleaning: antiseptic cleansing of the skin at the piercing site.
Piercing: performed quickly and precisely using a sterile needle; you may feel a sharp pinch followed by a brief throbbing or pressure.
Jewelry placement: immediate insertion of appropriate initial jewelry; post-procedure checks to ensure fit and alignment.
Aftercare briefing: verbal and written aftercare steps, what to expect during healing, and signs of complications that require attention.
Aftercare for Safe Healing
Clean hands first: always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing.
Saline soaks or sprays: use sterile saline solution (or a sea salt solution prepared to proper concentration) twice daily to gently clean the area. Avoid harsh soaps, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and ointments unless specifically recommended by your piercer or physician.
Avoid unnecessary movement and irritation: don’t twist, turn, or fiddle with jewelry; avoid tight clothing or accessories that rub the piercing.
Shower hygiene: gentle rinse in the shower is fine; avoid baths, hot tubs, saunas, swimming pools, and lakes until the piercing is fully healed.
Sleep and activity: avoid pressure on the piercing during sleep and be cautious with sports or physical activities that might catch or impact the jewelry.
Jewelry changes: don’t change jewelry until fully healed and you have professional guidance; premature changes can cause trauma and infection.
Expect normal healing symptoms: mild redness, swelling, tenderness, and some clear discharge are normal initially. Persistent severe pain, increasing swelling, yellow/green pus, fever, or red streaking are signs to seek professional help.
Healing Times (approximate)
Earlobe: 6–8 weeks
Cartilage (ear): 3–12 months
Nostril: 2–4 months
Septum: 6–8 weeks
Lip: 6–8 weeks
Tongue: 4–6 weeks
Nipple: 6–12 months
Navel: 6–12 months
Surface/dermal: variable; higher risk of migration and rejection
Risks and How We Minimize Them
Infection: minimized with sterile technique, quality jewelry, and proper aftercare. If infection occurs, seek professional evaluation—antibiotics may be required.
Rejection & migration: reduced by correct placement, appropriate jewelry, and patience during healing. Surface and dermal piercings carry higher risk.
Allergic reactions: we use implant-grade metals; let us know about metal allergies so we can select suitable materials.
Scarring/keloids: some people are prone to hypertrophic scarring or keloids; discuss history of scarring with your piercer

This place is AMAZING and I truly recommend it if you have the time for a tattoo in Chiang Mai. Me and my husband had the most amazing time - the whole team are so kind from the moment we arrived at the studio. I did a normal tattoo and my husband did a bamboo tattoo. Both were perfect and the professionals were very talented and kind. We felt safe and truly comfortable, even though we are tourists leaving the city tomorrow. Thailand is an amazing place to visit, Chiang Mai is the best city and this studio is the most perfect. Thank you so much again, team. I wish you all truly amazing things in your future. We will be back!
I had an absolutely amazing experience at 84 Tattoo! I sent over my designs via their Instagram and since I was only in Chiang Mai for a few days, they were able to squeeze me in for an appointment that day! The artist is truly talented, my tattoos look exactly like my Pinterest inspo pics! He did an utterly marvelous job, I couldn’t be happier with my pieces and I felt so safe in the shop’s environment. Thank you so much again! If I’m ever back and want a new tat, I know where to find you! (Attached are both my actual tattoos and their inspired Pinterest designs). Thank you thank you!
Master PondLai is real maestro of bamboo tattoo. At first i had concerns with making traditional tattoo with bamboo but now I can't feel more happy then I am when made it. It's more painful but on second day doesn't hurt at all (can see on pic). I got tattoo and contouring of old one for the best price. In 84 tattoo they also have yard for smoking with punching bag. Recommend this place for 100% and hope to come back later.
